Endemic to Brazil from the central-west, northeast and southeast regions ( Govaerts et al. 2010, Sobral et al. 2010).
Trees and shrubs 2–6 m tall. This species differs from other Psidium species by having shorter leaves (2.5–5.0 cm long) and a calyptrate calyx tearing open irregularly.
