Widely distributed and cultivated from Mexico to Argentina and Brazil ( Govaerts et al. 2010, Sobral et al. 2010).
Shrubs 1–3 m tall. This species differs from Campomanesia dichotoma by the constriction of the distal portion of the ovary and from other Psidium species by having dichasial inflorescence and linear bracteoles. This species can have solitary flowers or multiple dichasia.
