Type Locality: "Tumbala, Chiapas, Mexico (alt. 5000 ft. [1524 m])" .

Vernacular Names: Sclater's Shrew.

Distribution: Endemic to Mexico; known from two localities in Chiapas (Carraway, ms).

Conservation: IUCN – Endangered.

Discussion: Referred to unnamed subgenus by George (1988:456).
