Ecology. Shelf species, found at depths from 8 ( Naumov & Stepanjants 1972) to 380 m ( Peña Cantero 2010). On a wide range of sea bottoms, including bottoms of mud, sand, pebbles, stones, boulders and different mixed bottoms ( Jäderholm 1905; Ritchie 1913; Broch 1948; Naumov & Stepanjants 1972). Epibiotic on holothurians and ascidians and epilithic on pebbles and stones ( Naumov & Stepanjants 1972; Peña Cantero 2010). Gonothecae: February ( Peña Cantero 2010), May ( Jäderholm 1905; Ritchie 1913) and August ( Ritchie 1913).
Distribution. Circum-Antarctic ( Peña Cantero et al. 2002). West Antarctica: Cumberland Bay, in South Georgia ( Jäderholm 1905), Peter I Island ( Broch 1948; Blanco & Bellusci de Miralles 1972; Peña Cantero 2010), Low Island ( Blanco 1984), Livingston Island, in the South Shetland Islands (Peña Cantero 2006; 2008) and Bransfield Island, Antarctic Peninsula ( Peña Cantero & Vervoort 2009). East Antarctica: McMurdo Sound and Cape Royds, in the Ross Sea ( Ritchie 1913) and Adélie Coast ( Naumov & Stepanjants 1972).
