Aprionus lobatus Berest, 1986 View in CoL —new junior synonym of Aprionus acutus Edwards, 1938
Berest (1986: 77) distinguished A. lobatus , a species she regarded as closely related to but distinct from A. acutus , with reference to the “obliquely truncated edge of the apical gonocoxal lobe”. Her meaning is understandable from the genital illustration of the holotype male ( Berest 1986: fig. 1), the only specimen the author had available. The figure shows that the lobe-like extensions at the apices of the gonocoxites are not symmetrically shaped: one lobe is subtriangular, resembling the shape in A. acutus ( Jaschhof 1998: fig. 133a), while the other lobe is blunt-ended, due to distortion. Berest (1986) described the distorted rather than the undistorted lobe.
