Valves lanceolate-clavate with headpole and footpole rounded, apices not protracted. Length 25–52 µm, breadth 6.5–9.0 µm. Axial area straight, expanded to form a distinctly circular central area, with 4 isolated stigmoids situated around the central area. Central area not expanded to the margin. Raphe lateral, straight, with external proximal raphe ends distinctly dilated. External distal raphe ends extend nearly straight onto the valve mantle. Striae costate, radiate about the center of the valve, to the footpole and towards the headpole, before becoming parallel at the apex. Striae 11–15/ 10 µm. Apical pore field distinct, composed of defined rows of porelli. Septa and pseudosepta distinct, especially at the footpole.

Etymology:— The species resembles G. tumida in outline.
Observations:— Distinguished from G. witkowskii by the more rounded valves, and more rounded central area.
