Adult ( Fig. 20 View FIGURES 20 − 27 ). Wingspan 11.0−15.0 mm. Head white, with longitudinally arranged grayish brown scales at middle on vertex. Labial palpus white; second palpomere brown at 2/3, with loose long scale tuft on ventral surface; third palpomere about same length as first and second palpomeres together, with brown ring near base, at middle and at 2/3 respectively, apex brown. Antenna with scape grayish white except having brown band at 2/3 on dorsal surface; flagellum alternately grayish white and dark brown. Thorax and tegula brown, thorax with white spot at anterior 1/3 and before apex on lateral side respectively, tegula white at apex. Forewing ground color white, sprinkled with ochreous brown and blackish brown scales; distal 1/3 of costal margin with four short blackish brown streaks alternated with white extending obliquely outward; terminal band wider along termen to tornus; narrow ochreous brown fascia from costal 1/8 straightly to dorsum, then curved inward to base along dorsum; ochreous brown dot below costal 1/5 and 1/4 respectively; broad ochreous brown fascia from between beyond 1/4 and middle of costal margin to dorsum, its inner margin arched toward base medially, with dense black scales along anterior 2/3, outer margin ill-defined, posterior 1/3 extending outward along dorsum for 2/5 width of fascia, edged with black scales anteriorly; thin short blackish brown streak extending obliquely upward from below 3/5 at anterior 1/4 to below distal 1/3 of costal margin; discocellular spot sub-rectangular, ochreous brown, longitudinally with dark brown scales along middle line; subterminal spot blackish brown, edged with black scales along inner and lower margins, lower margin produced outward into black streak extending to before terminal band; dorsum with ochreous brown streak from 1/4 extending across fold to about anterior 1/3; tornal spot blacking brown, joined with terminal band posteriorly; cilia dark gray, with a row of short blackish brown scales at base, except white above and beneath apex. Hindwing and cilia from gray to dark gray. Forelegs with coxae and femora brown on ventral surface, grayish white on dorsal surface; tibiae black on outer surface, white on inner surface; tarsi black ringed with white; midlegs white, tibiae black at 1/3 and 2/3 on outer surface, tarsi ringed with black; hindlegs grayish white, tibiae covered with dense long pale yellowish white hairs dorsally, tarsi ringed with black distally.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 34 − 41 ). Uncus sub-parallel laterally, rounded at apex, with dense long setae on ventral surface. Gnathos strong, curved near base, pointed apically. Tegumen convex at middle on anterior margin. Valva with basal 1/4 narrow and parallel, then gradually widened to middle, distal half expanded in knife shape, covered with dense hairs; ventral margin with acute process at basal 1/4. Valvella about 1/4 length of valva, clubbed, curved outward, basal 2/3 narrow, distal 1/3 dilated spherically, with long setae. Juxta about 2/3 length of valvella, subrectangular, with long setae on lateral and posterior margins. Saccus longer than valvella, blunt apically. Aedeagus curved in S shape, basal 1/3 slightly inflated, apex blunt.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 48 View FIGURES 48 − 52 ). Papillae anales sub-rectangular, with setae. Anterior apophyses about 1/5 length of posterior apophyses. Eighth tergite straight and weakly sclerotized on posterior margin; eighth sternite semicircularly concave at middle on anterior margin, lateral band abruptly narrowed to a small incurved hook distally, reaching near anterior margin. Ostium bursae large, sub-rounded. Ductus bursae membraneous, about same length as corpus bursae. Ductus seminalis arising from posterior end of corpus bursae. Corpus bursae elliptical; signum a strong spine, with weakly sclerotized sub-triangular plate at base, placed at posterior 1/3.
Diagnosis. This species is similar to E. lunata sp. nov. in appearance. Encolapta bifasciaria sp. nov. can be separated by the forewing with a broad fascia extending from the costal margin to the dorsum, the valva knifeshaped distally, the valvella clubbed in the male genitalia, and the lateral band separated anteriorly in the female genitalia. In E. lunata sp. nov., the broad fascia extends from the costal margin to about posterior 1/5, the valva is elliptical distally, the valvella is crescent-shaped in the male genitalia, and the lateral band is joined at anterior 2/ 5 in the female genitalia.
Distribution. China (Hainan).
Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin prefix bi -, meaning two, and the Latin fasciarius, meaning fascia, referring to the two transverse fasciae on the forewing.
