Adult ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 20 − 27 ). Wingspan 10.0−13.0 mm. Head white, with longitudinally arranged grayish brown scales at middle. Labial palpus white; second palpomere black at 1/3 on outer surface, with black ring at 2/3, with loose long scale tuft on ventral surface; third palpomere with black ring at 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 respectively, black at apex, about same length as first and second palpomeres together. Antenna with scape grayish white mottled brown scales on dorsal surface; flagellum grayish white, with dark brown annulations. Thorax and tegula white, with ochreous brown scales. Forewing ground color white, sprinkled with ochreous brown and black scales; costal margin with short strip near base reaching about anterior 1/3, widened posteriorly, with ochreous brown spot before middle obliquely outward to anterior 1/4, and small unconspicuous black spot beyond middle, with four short black streaks alternated with white in distal 1/3 extending obliquely outward; terminal band slightly widened along posterior 2/3 of termen; ochreous brown dot below 1/6, 1/5 and 2/7 of costal margin respectively, short longitudinal streak placed beneath above outer two dots; cell with indistinct ochreous brown spot near upper margin between discal and discocellular spots; discal spot large, ranging from before 1/3 to beyond 2/3 of cell, ochreous brown, its distal half longitudinally with black scales along middle line and along lower magin; discocellular spot ochreous brown, edged with dense black scales anteriorly; subterminal spot ochreous brown, edged with black scales anteriorly and posteriorly, forming a fork open toward apex; ochreous brown dot below 2/5 of fold; dorsum with three ochreous brown spots: first one irregular, at base, second one sub-triangular, at about 1/4, reaching fold anteriorly, third one ovate, between 3/5 and 4/5, across fold anteriorly; tornal spot ill-defined; cilia dark gray, with a row of short blackish brown scales at base, except white above and beneath apex. Hindwing and cilia gray. Forelegs with coxae and femora blackish brown on ventral surface, white on dorsal surface, tibiae black on outer surface, white on inner surface, tarsi black ringed with white; midlegs with coxae and femora dark brown on ventral surface, white on dorsal surface, tibiae and tarsi white, tibiae black at 1/3 and 2/3 on outer surface, tarsi ringed with black; hindlegs grayish white, tibiae covered with dense long pale yellowish white hairs dorsally, tarsi ringed with dark brown distally.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 38 View FIGURES 34 − 41 ). Uncus parallel laterally, bluntly rounded at apex, with dense long setae on ventral surface. Gnathos curved at basal 2/5, heavily sclerotized in distal 3/5, bluntly pointed at apex. Tegumen convex at middle on anterior margin. Valva narrow at base, widened to middle ventrally, distal half trapezoidal and covered with dense long hairs. Valvella slightly shorter than 1/3 length of valva, basal 3/4 broad, irregular, distal 1/4 digitate, curved outward, with long setae. Juxta short and broad, setose, triangularly produced posterolaterally. Saccus slightly shorter than valvella, blunt apically. Aedeagus curved in S shape, dilated in basal 2/5, narrowed in distal 3/5, truncate at apex.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 48 − 52 ). Papillae anales with dense setae. Anterior apophyses about 1/5 length of posterior apophyses. Eighth tergite straight and sclerotized on posterior margin; lateral band curved, reaching anterior margin. Anterior half of ostium bursae wider than posterior half, with sclerotized margin. Ductus bursae membraneous, about half length of corpus bursae. Ductus seminalis arising from posterior end of corpus bursae. Corpus bursae elongate elliptical; signum rhomboid, placed at posterior 1/3, with transverse carina.

Diagnosis. This species resembles E. cornuta sp. nov. in appearance, and the differences between them are stated under the latter species. The male genitalia of E. trapezoidea sp. nov. resemble those of E. scriniata ( Meyrick, 1913) , but can be separated by the valvella shorter than 1/3 the length of the valva; in E. scriniata the valvella is longer than half the length of the valva ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 34 − 41 ).

Distribution. China (Chongqing, Fujian, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Zhejiang).

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin trapezoideus, meaning trapezoidal, referring to the shape of the distal half of the valva.
