Stillingia sylvatica var. spathulata was described by Müller Argoviensis (1866) based on eight syntypes. For lectotypification, the specimens at G were chosen since this is where Müller Argoviensis worked. S. B. Buckley s.n., from Alabama, is selected because it presents the highest number of duplicates in other herbaria.
