1. Rostrum without carinae Dorytomus luridus View in CoL -group
- Rostrum with carinae 2
2. Tibiae with uncus without mucro. Rostrum shorter than head and pronotum Dorytomus rubrirostris View in CoL - combined in both sexes and rather thick group
- Tibia with uncus and mucro. Rostrum longer than the head and pronotum 3 combined
3. Body red-brown. Rostrum distinctly curved Dorytomus rufulus View in CoL -group
- Body dark, rarely brownish. The rostrum usually almost straight, especially Dorytomus taeniatus View in CoL - in the basal third group
