Natantispora unipolaris K.L. Pang, S.Y. Guo & E.B.G. Jones View in CoL , Fungal Diversity 72: 29 (2015) ( FIGURE 4 View FIGURE 4 )

Index Fungorum number: IF 551074, Facesoffungi number: FoF 00564

Saprobic on decaying wood submerged in freshwater. Sexual morph: Ascomata 100–200 μm wide, 80–150 μm high, gregarious, semi-immersed to erumpt, subglobose to lenticular, dark brown to black, with inclusions and mycelia on the surface. Peridium 5–20 μm, composed of one layer of elongated cells with large lumina, cells of textura angularis. Paraphyses absent. Catenophyses present, persistent. Asci deliquescent. Ascospores 20–28.5 × 5.5–8 μm (x = 25.7 × 7.1 μm, n=20), elongated-ellipsoid, hyaline, 1-septate, not constricted at the septum, thin-walled, smooth-walled, with a unipolar appendage which initially adpressed to the ascospore, and unfurling once in water to form a long thin filament. Asexual morph: Undetermined.

Culture characteristics: Colonies on PDA are extracted, after 26 days at 28℃. Colony from above are dense, circular, with a thick mat of aerial hyphae, white, fimbriate and annular groove. The reverse sides of colony are white in grey, with white outer ring.

Material examined: China, Yunnan province, Jianshui City, Shagou River, on submerged wood, 9 October 2023, W. Lin, YR64 ( IFRD 900-2), living culture CGMCC 3.27566.

Notes: Natantispora unipolaris was first reported on a dead stem of Phragmites australis ( Poaceae )( Liu et al. 2015). Our new isolate groups with N. unipolaris in 100/0.97 bootstrap support in our phylogenetic tree. Morphologically, it fits well with the characters of N. unipolaris . Hence, we named the new collection as N. unipolaris and it is a new habitat record from freshwater.
