Ankothrips Crawford

The genus Ankothrips includes 13 species worldwide. Ankothrips zayandicus Minaei et al. is the only member known from Asia ( Iran), with the rest of the species restricted to North America, Africa and Europe ( Minaei et al. 2012). The genus Ankothrips is close to Cranothrips , from which it can be distuinguished by a prolonged tooth on second antennal segment, in contrast to the prolonged tooth on first antennal segment of Cranothrips species ( Pereyra & Mound 2009).
