Taxonomy. Praomys coetzeei Van der Straeten, 2008 ,

Duque de Braganca (25 km N, 15 km E), Angola.

Praomys coetzeei previously was grouped in the species P. tullbergi but shown to be distinct based on craniometric characters. Monotypic.

Descriptive notes. Head-body 90-140 mm, tail 123-163 mm, ear 14-21 mm, hindfoot 24-28 mm. No specific data are available for body weight. Fur of Coetzee’s Soft-furred Mouse is brown above, slightly darker than Tullberg’s Soft-furred Mouse ( P. tullbergi ) and gray to whitish gray below but never as white as on Tullberg’s Soft-furred Mouse. Tail is very long (c.137% of head-body length) and usually same color below and above. Hindfeet and forefeet are white. Females have three pairs of nipples.

Habitat. Primary and secondary and gallery forests.

Food and Feeding. No information.

Breeding. No information.

Activity patterns. Coetzee’s Soft-furred Mouse is probably nocturnal and terrestrial.
