Larinus rudicollis Petri, 1907 View in CoL
Types in the HNHM. Male lectotype in good condition ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ) (body length: 13.2 mm) here designated, pinned from right elytron, and bearing the labels: “ Algerien, Philippop., Lethierry”, “ Algir., Philippopol, leg. Lethierry”, “ Larinus rudicollis n. sp. Petri” [handwritten], “Coll. Reitter” [printed], “ Holotypus Larinus (s. str.) rudicollis Petri, 1907 ” [red–margined handwritten museum label], “ Larinus rudicollis Petri , det. Khnzorian”, “ Lectotypus (male), Larinus rudicollis Petri, L. Gültekin des., 2006” [red, printed]. It is pinned and in good condition except for the missing right antennal funicle which has become detached beyond the second segment. The aedeagus was dissected previously and inaccurately glued directly on the last visible urosternite, thus it was re-mounted on a paper card and placed under the specimen in the same pin. The male paralectotype in good condition (body length: 10.8 mm) here designated, pinned from right elytron, and bearing the labels: “Tripolis” [handwritten], “Coll. Reitter” [printed], “ Paratypus Larinus rudicollis Petri, 1907 ” [red–margined handwritten museum label], “ Larinus rudicollis Petri , det. Khnzorian”, “ Paralectotypus (male), Larinus rudicollis Petri, L. Gültekin des., 2006” [red, printed]. It is pinned through the right elytron, and the aedeagus dissected by this author was mounted on a paper card underneath the specimen. The female paralectotype in good condition (body length: 11.2 mm) here designated, apart the left fore and hind onychium missing, pinned from right elytron, and bearing the labels: “Sibiria, Reitter” [handwritten], “ Paratypus, Larinus rudicollis Petri, 1907 ” [red margin handwritten museum label], “ L. vulpes var. rudicollis …” [handwritten], “8”, “Coll. Reitter” [printed], “ Paralectotypus (female), Larinus rudicollis Petri, L. Gültekin des., 2006” [red, printed]. The specimen, formerly pinned through the right elytron, was glued on a card by this author. Another male (body length: 10.6 mm) does not belong to type series since it is labeled: “Mardin”, “Asia min. Mardin” [handwritten], “Coll. Reitter” [printed], “ Paratypus, Larinus rudicollis Petri, 1907 ” [red–margined handwritten museum label], and no material from Turkey is listed in the original description ( Petri, 1907).
Remarks. L. rudicollis is a valid species near L. inaequalicollis but clearly differs from the latter by its small body size and the female rostrum not being distinctly longer than of the male. The biology of latter species is different, since L. inaequalicollis develops in flowerheads of Echinops orientalis Trautv. in northeastern Turkey (Gültekin, unpublished data).
