Type locality (restricted). Tinguá , Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Bionomics. Females of this species have been collected with human landing catches in the Amazon rainforest ( Cerqueira 1961).
Arbovirus infection records. This species was found naturally infected with Macaua virus in the Brazilian Amazon ( Hérve et al. 1986) and YFV in midwestern and southern Brazil ( Dégallier et al. 1992; Stanzani et al. 2023).
Occurrence in Brazil. States of Acre, Bahia, Distrito Federal, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, and São Paulo ( Lane & Cerqueira 1942; Lane 1953; Forattini et al. 1986a; Xavier et al. 1989; Dégallier et al. 1992; Vasconcelos et al. 1997; Guimarães et al. 2000 a, 2000b; Cardoso et al. 2005; Hutchings et al. 2005; Santos et al. 2008; Lira-Vieira et al. 2013; Abreu et al. 2019; Stanzani et al. 2023).
Occurrence in other countries. Argentina and Bolivia ( Wilkerson et al. 2021).
