Scoparia dulcis L.
status

Scoparia dulcis Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 1: 116. 1753 View Cited Treatment .

"Habitat in Jamaica, Curassao." RCN: 946.

Lectotype (Sutton in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 86. 1993): Herb. A. van Royen No. 921.348-49 ( L) .

Generitype of Scoparia Linnaeus.

Current name: Scoparia dulcis L. ( Scrophulariaceae ).

Note: D’Arcy (in Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 66: 249. 1979) indicated unseen and unspecified Sloane material as type, but this would not have been seen by Linnaeus and is not original material for the name. Cramer (in Dassanayake & Fosberg, Revised Handb. Fl. Ceylon 3: 439. 1981) indicated Clifford material (evidently unseen) as type, and has been followed by a number of later authors. However, no Clifford material associated with this name can be traced in the Clifford herbarium (BM). Sutton’s type choice is therefore accepted here.
