Distribution: N Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, W Bolivia, S Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, perhaps N Peru and S Brazil.

Conservation: IUCN 2003 and IUCN / SSC Action Plan (2001) – Lower Risk (lc).

Discussion: Does not include laephotis ; see Autino et al. (1999) and Barquez and Diaz (2001). Does not include magellanicus ; see Barquez et al. (1993) and Mares et al. (1995).
