Chrysodema (Chrysodema) lewisii nakatai Frank & Sekerka, 2020: 16 View Cited Treatment .
Material examined. 1 ♀ ( Figs 1D–F View FIGURE 1 , 5I–K View FIGURE 5 ) ( CHTS): CHINA, Wucheng Mountain , Tucheng District , New Taipei City, Taiwan; alt. 300 m; 6.XI.2004; Chi-Liang Cheng leg.; length 2.51 cm, width 0.88 cm, length/width ratio: 2.85 . • 1 ♀ ( CWIC): Wushibi , Yilan County, Taiwan; alt. 450 m; 18.VII.2004; Wen-I Chou leg. • 1 ♀ ( CWIC); same collection data as for the preceding; alt. 300 m; 14.IX.2001 .
Distribution. China (north Taiwan) and Japan (Yaeyama Islands).
Adult host plant. Machilus thunbergii and Terminalia catappa (need verification, see remarks) ( Ong & Hattori, 2019); sometimes found on Castanopsis carlesii and Alnus formosana (Wen-I Chou, pers. comm. 2021).
Remarks. Frank & Sekerka (2020) described this subspecies as elytra semi-matt and about half of specimens with impression at basal third of each elytron. However, all the three specimens we examined were without the impression mentioned above. It is the same in habitus of this species in Ong & Hattori (2019) and by personal communication with Wen-I Chou. Whether all specimens from Taiwan are without impression at basal third of each elytron needs to be verified.
Ong & Hattori (2019) cited the former two host plants from Ohmomo & Fukutomi (2013) but we found it was misquoted. Four host plants listed by Ohmomo & Fukutomi (2013) are cited as the host plants of subspecies C. (C.) lewisii lewisii . It seems Terminalia catappa is not the real host and sometimes the species can be found on Castanopsis carlesii and Alnus formosana (Wen-I Chou, pers. comm. 2021).
