Diagnosis and key

The genus Seticotasteromimus is characterised within Pissodini by the combination of the following traits: 1) small body size (2.1–2.5 mm); 2) procoxae separated by at least their diameter; 3) abdominal process between metacoxae much broader than coxal width; 4) robust rostrum, relatively short (not longer than 1.1x pronotal length; 5) eyes below level of rostrum; 6) eyes in lateral view close to front margin of pronotum, width of temple less than the diameter of the eye; 7) antennal funicle 7-segmented with stout first segment; 8) scutellum pentagonal; 9) elytra, pronotum, part of rostrum and legs set with rather long, spatulate, raised scales; 10) hind wings present; 11) suture between first two ventrites indistinct; 12) femora edentate; 13) tibiae all uncinate at outer angle; 14) 3rd tarsal segment bilobed.

The new species S. crassirostris is morphologically similar to S. jarawa and S. brunomanseri . In the illustrated key given below, all three species can be differentiated:

1 Rostrum thick, thicker than femora. Antennal segments transverse. Raised scales on elytra 4–5 times longer than wide, weakly clubbed or parallel sided, and rounded at apex ( Fig. 3I View FIGURES 3 ).................. S. crassirostris ( Malaysia, Cameron Highlands)

- Rostrum slender, thinner than femora. Antennal segments as wide as long. Raised scales on elytra maximal 3–3.5 times longer than wide, apex pointed or serrate........................................................................ 2

2 Elytra more robust, faintly convergent towards apex. Legs long and slender. Raised scales on elytra lanceolate and pointed apicad ( Fig. 3H View FIGURES 3 ). Female genitalic characters: sternite VIII with a wide and laterally angular plate, spermatheca with distinct ramus and nodulus, base of cornu more elongate................................ S. brunomanseri ( Malaysia, Borneo)

- Elytra more elongate, parallel sided. Legs shorter. Raised scales on elytra clubbed and broader with rounded and faintly serrate apex ( Fig. 3G View FIGURES 3 ). Female genitalic characters: sternite VIII with plate narrow and laterally rounded, spermatheca with tiny indistinct ramus and nodulus, base shorter.................... S. jarawa ( Malaysia, Borneo and India, Andaman Islands)
