Laevidentalina sp. A

Pl. 1, fig. 13

Description: The test wall is smooth, calcareous and hyaline. The test is elongate, and uniserial, with the chambers gradually increasing in size towards the terminal end. The sutures are depressed. The aperture is terminal, with slits radiating towards the end.

Remarks: The test is 0.1 mm in cross-section diameter and 1 mm in length.

The classification was made based on the description provided by Loeblich & Tappan (1988) as Dentalina has a smooth surface, rather than having longitudinal costae.

Life strategy: Laevidentalina spp. have been documented as being infaunal ( Alegret et al., 2003) under varying oxygen conditions ( Cimerman & Langer, 1991; Sgarella & Moncharmont Zei, 1993; Rögl & Spezzaferri, 2002; Milker & Schmiedl, 2012).

Global stratigraphic range: The stratigraphic range for the genus Laevidentalina is Cretaceous to Recent ( Loeblich & Tappan, 1988).

Regional occurrence: This species is recorded to occur in middle Miocene sediments on the Namibian outer continental shelf, south of the Kunene River mouth.
