New record for the Nicoya, Tempisque, Bebedero and Barranca River basins; previous records of the species in Costa Rican freshwaters were restricted to the Parismina River basin. New elevational record (0 m.a.s.l.); previous records of the species in Costa Rican freshwaters were restricted to 20– 110 m.a.s.l. Basis of the record: A single specimen was captured in the Isla Chira, on the Golfo de Nicoya, Puntarenas Costa Rica (10.10398, - 85.11878), at 0 m.a.s.l., on November 6, 2020, by Jose Matarrita (UTN); this continental island is located in the area of influence of four Pacific drainages (Nicoya, Tempisque, Bebedero and Barranca). Additional records in the region (including the Bebedero and Tempisque rivers) were confirmed by artisanal and sport anglers.
