Distribution: Global: Atlantic Ocean; from Florida Keys, USA, Bermuda and the Bahamas to Santa Catarina, Brazil, in the western Atlantic and from Senegal to Angola, including the Islands of the Gulf of Guinea, in the eastern Atlantic, also in the Mediterranean Sea; entering estuaries and littoral lagoons and ascending river courses; Costa Rica: To , Pa , Ma and Si (Atlantic), 0–12 m.a.s.l., Per, Dia.

Occurrence and conservation status: Nat, LC.
