21. Cataloipus sp.
Diagnosis: The species can be identified by its fastigium of vertex without depression; male subgenital plate excised at apex ( Dirsh, 1965; fig. 227).
Habitats: A grassland and predominantly graminivorous species.
Material examined: Wadi haya region: Al Hamarah, 1♂, 1♀, on alfalfa, 2.XI.1993. Localities : Cyrenaica : Libyan desert, Wadi Howa ; Fezzan: Al Hamarah .
Distribution: Libya, Nigeria, N. Rhodesia.
Remarks: Cataloipus is not common throughout Libya. Cata1oipus sp. was recorded from Libyan desert by Shaw (1933). Johnston (1956) listed 16 species of the genus from Africa including Cataloipus sp. from Libya. The identification of this material from Wadi Haya region offered considerable difficulties. We assume the previous record of Cataloipus from Libya refer to material similar to ours and abstain from identification of the present material.
