Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland by Allen & Erdmann (2012: 512). A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, 4 m depth, by Dean Tully on 26 Sept. 2015.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Samoa, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to southern Great Barrier Reef ( Australia), Lord Howe Island, New Caledonia and Tonga. Fond in clear lagoon and seaward reefs with live Acropora corals, 1–30 m depth. Marine.
