Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Matanalaua River, New Hanover by Munro (1958: 285)
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East and South Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes ( Mauritius, Rodrigues) east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland ( Australia). Solitary on sand or mud bottoms, entering estuaries, 1–25 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
