Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, by Dean Tully); a video of a specimen taken off southern New Hanover at 3–47 m depth, St. KR106, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Caroline Islands and Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary or in pairs, in coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1–30 m depth. Marine.
