Scarus spinus (Kner 1868) —Pygmy parrotfish
Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005; a video of a specimen taken off southern New Hanover , at 4–51 m depth, St. KR 110, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Central Indonesia east to Marshall Islands and Samoa, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Solitary, in coastal and seaward coral reefs, 2–25 m depth. Marine.
