Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken at Kavieng, Kavieng District , 0–11 m depth, St. KR 22, 5 June 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: East Africa east to Micronesia, Fiji and Tonga, Australia to Ryukyu Islands. Found over seagrass beds, 1–25 m depth. Marine.
