Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, 3 m depth, by Dean Tully on 3 Sept. 2011; a specimen observed at Balang Island , New Hanover, 1–18 m depth, St. T 21, on 6 Nov. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian and Easter islands, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, New South Wales ( Australia), Lord Howe and Norfolk islands, and Rapa. Found in seagrass beds and algal-covered flats, adjacent to lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1–30 m depth. Marine.
