Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken west of Albatross Passage, southwestern Kavieng District, St. KR50, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken at Anelaua Island, off eastern New Hanover, 4–12 m depth, St. KR130, in 2014.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: South China Sea and eastern Indonesia east to Philippines and Papua New Guinea, north to Taiwan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in lagoons and fringing reefs, 2–12 m depth. Marine.
