Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 4 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District; a video of a specimen taken at Nubilus Island, off eastern New Hanover , at 3–32 m depth, St. KR 88, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: South China Sea north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia. Among corals or rocks at outer reef slopes, 20–50 m depth. Marine.
