Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 2 June 2013, first dive, during ACIAR Aquarium Survey at Kavieng. A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District by Dean Tully on 5 July 2011 .
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa east to Samoa and Tuamotu Archipelago, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to New Caledonia. Found in areas of mixed coral, rubble, consolidated limestone, and sand of seaward coral reefs, or in soft coral or sponge habitats, 3–60 m depth. Marine.
