Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken off Nusa Island, Kavieng District, 2–18 m depth, St. KR32, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Comores and Mauritius (Mascarenes) east to Marshall Islands, Line Islands, Fiji and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in coastal, lagoon and seaward reefs, 2–20 m depth. Marine.
