Status at New Ireland. First recorded from St. Mathias as Amphiprion rosenbergi by Duncker & Mohr (1929: 68), based on ZMH 11944. Specimens photographed in Kavieng region on 3–4 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 14); specimens photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng region by Dietmar Amon; a video of a specimen taken at Nubilus Island, off eastern New Hanover, 3–25 m depth, St. KR90, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2, 4.—General distribution: Cocos-Keeling Islands (eastern Indian Ocean) and Indonesia east to Caroline and Tuamotu islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in lagoons and on seaward reef slopes, commensal with sea anemones, 1–38 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
