Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 3–4 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey at Kavieng. A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District , 6 m depth, by Dean Tully on 17 Sept. 2012; a video of a specimen taken at Tungelo Island , off southeastern New Hanover , at 3–46 m depth, St. KR 104, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: East Africa, Comores and western Mascarenes east to Hawaiian Islands and Pitcairn Group, north to Ogasawara Islands, south to northern Australia, New Caledonia and Tonga. Found on seaward coral reefs, 3–70 m depth. Marine.
