Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005 by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Mascarenes east to Hawaiian, Line and Marquesas islands, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Lord Howe, Norfolk and Gambier islands. Found in lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 0–171 m depth. Marine.
