Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland by Peters (1877: 833).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 0.—General distribution: India east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia. Found on sand or mud bottoms, reefs, estuaries, also near coral or rocky reefs, 5–49 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
