Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, 5 m depth, by Dean Tully in July 2011; others photographed at St. KVG19 ( Bagail Bay , Kavieng District ) by Serge Andréfouët on 19 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken in Senta Pass, east of New Hanover at 5–12 m depth, St. KR 114, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa east to Hawaiian and northern Line islands and Pitcairn Group, north to southern Japan, south to northern New Zealand, and Rapa. Found in live and dead coral reef and lagoon habitats, also on rocky reefs, 0–35 m depth. Marine.
