Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Hanover and Edmago Island , Kavieng , New Ireland by Munro (1958: 204). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005. KFRS material.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Palau and Tonga, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Western Australia and Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Solitary or in groups, in seagrass areas and on sand or rubble bottoms adjacent to coral reefs, 1–15 m depth. Marine.
