Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Matanalaua River and Drei Inseln Harbour , New Hanover by Munro (1958: 158). Specimens observed by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Philippines, Society Islands and Marquesas Islands, north to southern Japan, south to Western Australia, Port Stephens (New South Wales), New Caledonia and Tonga. Found on mud bottoms, including estuaries, 1–122 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
