Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kavieng, New Ireland by Kailola (1987b: 292); subsequently reported from Lihir Group, Namatamai District by Fry et al. (2006: 129). Specimens observed at Kavieng fish market by Barry C. Russell on 14 June 2014. KFRS material.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2, 5.—General distribution: East Africa, Comores, Seychelles and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian Islands, Line Islands ( Kiribati) and Austral Islands, north to southern Japan, south to off Kimberleys (Western Australia), New Caledonia, northern New Zealand, and Tonga. Found above rock bottom, 90–400 m depth. Marine.
