Status at New Ireland. First recorded from off Kavieng, New Ireland, as Carangoides auroguttatus , by Kailola (1975: 117); record confirmed as C. bajad by Kailola (1987b: 276). A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 1 Jan. 2007; a video of a specimen taken at Alexander Passage, off southeastern New Hanover, at 5–14 m depth, St. KR96, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell). KFRS material.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Solomon Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Found above coastal reefs and seaward reef slopes, 1–70 m depth. Marine.
