Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen in a video of a specimen taken west of Nago Island, Kavieng District, at 4–26 m depth, St. KR 16, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); another taken at Anelaua Island , off eastern New Hanover , at 3–16 m depth, St. KR 98, in 2014.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Great Barrier Reef ( Australia) to Solomon Islands. Solitary or in pairs, in coastal reefs or sheltered lagoons, mimics striped fangblennies Meiacanthus vittatus Smith-Vaniz 1976 ; 2–25 m depth. Marine.
