Ostorhinchus apogonoides (Bleeker 1856) View in CoL —Goldbelly cardinalfish

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen in a video of a specimen taken at Alexander Passage, off southeastern New Hanover, at 5–14 m depth, St. KR 96, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell); a specimen observed at Bauddisson Island , Kavieng District , 1–19 m depth, St. T 5, on 31 Oct. 2006, by Gerald R. Allen.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Philippines and Marquesas Islands, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland ( Australia) and Loyalty Islands. Found in coastal reefs and on seaward reef slopes, 3– 50 m depth. Marine.
