Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Kavieng, New Ireland by Munro (1958: 161); a video of a specimen taken at Pochol Island, east of New Hanover, at 6–7 m depth, St. KD62, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Marshall, Line and Pitcairn islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to northern Australia. Found in clear water of coastal, lagoon and seaward coral reefs, 1–20 m depth. Marine.
