Status at New Ireland. New record of this taxon from New Ireland; previously misidentified from Carteret Harbour, Lambom, New Ireland as Platycephalus serratus (non Cuvier in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1829) by Peters (1877: 839).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 3.—General distribution: Red Sea and Madagascar east to Philippines and New Guinea, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Benthic on silt or sand bottoms, 5–80 m depth. Marine.
