Status at New Ireland. New record, based on USNM 425215 About USNM from Nusa Island, Kavieng District. A specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 10 June 2009; another photographed at St. KVG20 (east of Enuk Island, Kavieng District ) by Serge Andréfouët on 20 Aug. 2014 .

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: South and East Africa east to Panama, north to southern Japan and Ogasawara, Hawaiian, Johnston and Easter islands, south to Western Australia at 31°52'S, Lord Howe and Kermadec islands, and Rapa. Found in coral and rocky reefs, at depths of 2–122 m depth. Marine.
