Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken in Steffen Strait, western Kavieng District at 3–18 m depth, St. KR68, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: South and East Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and western Mascarenes east to Samoa and Tonga, north to Ryukyu Islands and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in sheltered areas of offshore reefs, 3–40 m depth. Marine.
