Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Ningin Island, New Ireland as Holocentrus tiereoides by Munro (1958: 147), record confirmed by Kotlyar (1998: 204).
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 3.—General distribution: East Africa east to Line and Tuamotu islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found in clear water of coral-rich lagoon and seaward reefs, 6–45 m depth. Marine.
