Status at New Ireland. First recorded from Ysabel Passage, New Hanover by Dalzell (1987b: 691) and Kailola (1987a: 64).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands. Forming large schools in coastal waters near coral reefs, 0–50 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
